The more meetings I attended the more I felt that the City Council was doing the bare minimum to keep the city afloat; keep things the same. The more the city stayed the same, the greater the hardship for future generations. A city setup for older generations, inadvertently reducing a child's independence. I want to see walkability with safer crossings. I want to be able to enjoy public spaces under large trees in the hot summers. I want to see Orland High graduates stay in town to continue to improve the city they grew up in. However before a majority of this can happen, a plan must be put into place. A plan to improve infrastructure, housing, internet access, safer roads to boost economic activity. I can't do that without your support.
When I look at the future of our community, I see so much potential. But to truly unlock that potential and help our local economy thrive, we need the right foundation. That is why I am fully committed to bringing high-speed fiber internet access to our town. In today's world, reliable internet isn't a luxury, it is an absolute necessity for our local businesses to compete and grow. By adding fiber access, we will open up new opportunities, help our existing shops succeed, and attract new business to our area. This is a practical, common-sense step we can take together to build a stronger future for everyone in our town.
When I look at our town, I a massive lack of trees. I am focusing on a simple initiative: A Tree Program. My goal is to incentivize planting trees in public spaces and residential areas. During the hot summers, our streets can get incredibly hot, making it difficult to spend time outdoors. By planting more trees, we will create natural shade that directly increases walkability and makes our streets much more inviting. Most importantly, this program increases safety, by providing safe respite from the long summers.
I believe we need a protected, separated bike network here in Orland, and I am ready to make it a reality. When we invest in safe bike lanes, we are investing in the freedom and well-being of our entire community. Imagine our kids being able to ride to school, the park, or a friend’s house safely on their own. Picture families cycling downtown without the constant worry of traffic. A dedicated bike network gives our workforce a healthy way to commute, reduces traffic congestion on our roads, and cleans up the air we all breathe. By making cycling a viable option, we will help our neighbors save money and make our city a better place to live. Building this network is a positive investment in Orland's future, and I will work to get it done.
When we talk about making our community a place where everyone can afford to live, we have to talk about housing costs. That is why I am focused on zoning reform. I want to eliminate the outdated zoning policies and burdensome regulations that make building new housing so expensive. Economists across the board agree that cutting this red tape is the single most effective way to bring housing costs down. As your candidate, I am committed to championing these sensible reforms. By tackling these regulatory barriers, we can directly lower costs and ensure our community remains accessible and welcoming for everyone.
